A good mousse dessert should feel light yet indulgent—airy on the spoon, rich on the palate, and never overly complicated. This classic chocolate mousse hits that balance beautifully, whether you’re serving guests or just treating yourself.

🍫 Chocolate Mousse Dessert (Silky & Classic)

    ⭐ Why you’ll love it

This easy chocolate mousse delivers a deep cocoa flavour with a smooth, cloud-like texture. It’s elegant enough for dinner parties but simple enough for a weeknight dessert.

    🛒 Ingredients (serves 4–6)

    • 200g dark chocolate (at least 70%), chopped
    • 3 large eggs, separated
    • 50g caster sugar
    • 300ml double cream
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • Pinch of salt

    👩‍🍳 Method

Melt the dark chocolate gently over a bain-marie or in short bursts in the microwave. Stir until smooth, then let it cool slightly.

Whisk the egg yolks with half the sugar until pale and slightly thickened. Stir in the melted chocolate and vanilla extract until combined.

In a separate bowl, whip the double cream to soft peaks—don’t overdo it; you want it light and airy.

In another clean bowl, whisk the egg whites with a pinch of salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add the remaining sugar and whisk until glossy.

Now, fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture to loosen it. Then gently fold in the egg whites in stages, keeping as much air as possible in the mixture.

Spoon into serving glasses and chill for at least 2 hours, until set.

    🍽️ Serving ideas

Serve your chocolate mousse dessert with:

    • Fresh berries for contrast
    • A dollop of whipped cream
    • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder dusting

    🔍 Tips for perfect mousse

Use good-quality chocolate—it’s the star of the show.
Fold gently to keep that light, airy texture.
Chill properly for the best consistency.

    🔄 Variations

    • White chocolate mousse: Swap dark chocolate for white and reduce sugar
    • Coffee mousse: Add a shot of espresso for depth
    • Orange chocolate mousse: Stir in a little orange zest

    ⚠️ Note

This recipe uses raw eggs. If you prefer, use pasteurised eggs or opt for an egg-free version.

    🧊 Storage

Keep refrigerated and enjoy within 2 days for the best texture and freshness.

This classic mousse dessert proves that a handful of ingredients, treated well, can create something truly special—rich, smooth, and irresistibly light.
