Ingredients

  8. 1 cup milk
  9. ½ cup vegetable oil
  10. 2 tsp vanilla extract
  11. 1 cup hot water or coffee
  12. Chocolate Frosting
  13. 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  14. 3½ cups powdered sugar
  15. ½ cup cocoa powder
  16. ¼–½ cup heavy cream or milk
  17. 1 tsp vanilla extract
  18. Decoration
  19. 30–40 Kit Kat bars (full-size fingers)
  20. Chocolate ganache or extra frosting (optional)
  21. Sprinkles or M&M’s (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla; mix until smooth.
  4. Stir in hot water/coffee (batter will be thin).
  5. Divide batter between pans and bake for 30–35 minutes. Cool completely.
  6. Beat butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar, cocoa, vanilla, and cream; beat until fluffy.
  7. Frost cake layers and cover the sides evenly.
  8. Press Kit Kat bars vertically around the cake.
  9. Top with ganache, frosting, or candies. Chill briefly before slicing.
