Ingredients

  – 10 cups cubed bread, dried

  – 1/2 cup butter

  – 1 large onion, diced

  – 3 celery stalks, diced

  – 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth

  – 2 eggs, beaten (optional)

  – 1 tsp salt

  – 1/2 tsp black pepper

  – 2 tsp dried sage or 1 tbsp fresh

  – 2 tsp dried thyme or 1 tbsp fresh

 – 2 tbsp chopped parsley

Instructions

  – Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  – Sauté onion and celery in butter until soft.

  – Add herbs, salt, and pepper; stir for 1 minute.

  – Place dried bread cubes in a large bowl.

  – Pour vegetable mixture over the bread.

  – Add broth gradually until bread is moistened.

  – Add beaten eggs if using.

  – Mix gently and transfer to a baking dish.

  – Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes.

 – Uncover and bake 10 more minutes to crisp the top.
